Last night I went to see Queen of the Night, an amazing and interactive dinner theater experience held in the subterranean space of the Paramount Theater near Times Square. The gang behind this brilliant show is the same as the people behind Sleep No More–so I knew I was going to like it. The show itself is loosely based on Mozart’s The Magic Flute, though you should expect quite a loose interpretation. The night begins with a cocktail hour and many bizarre experiences–if you’re lucky. Fortune tellers, naked people in bathtubs, simulated sex on a table–trust me, you don’t want to miss this. You may even meet the Queen. The cocktails are phenomenal, the first one I tried was a cherry tomato, rosemary-infused concoction. Sounds gross but I promise you it was incredible–I tell you that from my couch as I nurse the hangover from having far too many of them. Dinner is served in quite a bold fashion, birdcages filled with lobster, entire roasted pigs and the cast actually feeds you your dessert, which I might add was incredible. Each table gets one main course and you can trade with other tables–we were a bit selfish with our lobsters though, each taking our own. Can you blame us? There are options though for vegetarians. And when they say there are flowing decanters of wine, they mean it. You won’t spend any more money than your ticket unless you want to continue drinking cocktails.

I don’t want to give too much away so all I’ll say is that I highly recommend it. All I’ll say is come with an open mind and ready to have a once in a lifetime experience. One thing is for sure, your concept of traditional dinner theater will never be the same.
